Going away from there, Jesus saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax stand and saying, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him.

While Jesus was sitting at the table in the house, many publicans and sinners came and sat at table with him and with the disciples. Seeing this, the Pharisees said to his disciples: “Why does your teacher eat with publicans and sinners?”. Jesus heard them and said: “It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick, so go and learn what it means: mercy, I want and not sacrifice, for I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
(Mt 9, 9-13)
