Every year millions of people travel to reach the main places of historical and spiritual interest, such as the great sanctuaries, even along the ancient pilgrim roads – on foot, by bicycle, in the most varied means – for a journey (even “Interior”), to discover oneself, to appreciate fascinating and less known places and meet other travelers for exchanges of experiences. So did the Vespa driver and our brother Mauro in July 2018, making the Ride Lodi Santiago de Compostela (Spain), traveling on his vintage Vespa, an indomitable PX 125 of 1985.

An extraordinary experience that this year intends to repeat. In fact, he is about to face his next adventure in July, in the company of his beloved Vespa: the “Vespapellegrinaggio 2019 – Via Francigena”, an initiative that has already received important institutional patronage. The press conference on Friday 28 June 2019, at 12.00, at the Ad Padum Hostel, Corte Sant’Andrea (Lodi), in concert with the local cultural association Compagnia di Sigerico Laudense (which is part of the European Association Via Francigena ) showed the project.

The journey will be approximately 4,100 km long. Twelve stages, from 6 to 17 July, between Italy, France and England, between valleys and Alpine passes. They travel “slow”! Traveling an average of 340 km a day.

“I will start riding my PX (with camping equipment) from the Ad Padum hostel in Corte Sant’Andrea, in the Lodi area, towards Canterbury (in England), where I will collect a parchment from the Headquarters of the Catholic Templars of Italy to bring to Rome and, symbolically, in the Vatican, passing through all the Commanderies, English, French and Italian, on the original route of the Via Francigena (which is the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe), in the footsteps of Siregico, the British archbishop of Canterbury of Xth century, to which we owe the so-called “Sigerico itinerary”, the oldest travel report referring to the Via Francigena, which he traveled from Rome to Canterbury in 990. I will go back all the way with the intention of making a video to enhance a new approach to pilgrimage on the Via Francigena, the one on the Vespa: the ‘Vespapellegrinaggio’, precisely, also promoting the sites and regions concerned “.
